Reporting to you from America’s 20th most dangerous city

Yesterday, Morgan Quitno Press released a list of America’s most dangerous and safest cities. This is supposedly based on FBI figures. Interestingly enough, St. Louis is the USA’s most dangerous city. 2nd is Detroit. St. Louis won the baseball World Series last week against Detroit. The twentieth most dangerous city is North Charleston, where I live. This is right behind Washington DC, which is number 19. So, I am proud to say that I live in South Carolina’s most dangerous city, and America’s twentieth, haha.

Check out the list here. I guess I need to live in Brick, New Jersey, which is the safest city.

If you look at my post, the second one below this one, you will find that I introduced my friend Carlos. He also introduced me on his blog. I decided to translate his introduction into English.

Below you will find the original text and my translation of each paragraph.

Não me lembro quando comecei a conversar com Adam, mas sei que já faz um bom tempo. Adam é norte-americano (ele não gosta do termo), vive em South Carolina (se escrevo Carolina do Sul, ele acha ruim), é do lado do Bush e é protestante.

I don’t remember when I started talking with Adam, but I know that it’s been awhile. Adam is North-American (he doesn’t like that term), lives in
South Carolina, is pro-Bush, and is Protestant.

Eu sou anti-bush (anti governo americano) e numa boa, podem me chamar de preconceituoso, não estou nem aí, mas, eu sou anti Martinho Lutero.

Pelo que esta doutrina faz em países pobres, como o Brasil. Criam uma legião de evangélicos alienados.

I am anti-Bush (actually, anti-US government), and you can call me prejudiced, I don’t care, but I am anti- Martin Luther. This is what the doctrine has done in poor countries, such as
Brazil. It has created a legion of alienated Christians.

Adam conhece bem o português, o que facilita nossa comunicação, pois, eu leio razoávelmente em inglês, porém não escrevo. Se me lembro bem, Adam sabe alemão e português, o que já serviria de argumentação contra Michael Moore, em um trecho de um de seus livros/documentário. Sobre a questão de americanos não se interessarem por outras línguas/culturas pois são o centro do mundo.

Adam speaks Portuguese well, which makes our communication easier, and also I can reasonably read English, all though I don’t write it very well. If I remember correctly, Adam can speak German and Portuguese, which would serve as an argument against Michael Moore, as in a passage in one of
Moore’s books about the fact that Americans are not interested in other languages and cultures and think that they are the center of the world.

Adam já veio aqui em Belo Horizonte algumas vezes, visitou pelo que vi em fotos alguns locais históricos de Minas Gerais. Ele veio nem carnaval, por isso não pude me encontrar com ele, pois, sempre aproveito esta data para ir para Uberaba.

Adam has already been here to
Belo Horizonte a few times and visited some historic places in Minas Gerais. He went during Carnaval, and so I was unable to see him because I always want to be in Uberaba during this time.

Adam também edita arquivos na wikipedia, e muitas vezes, quando vamos conversar a respeito de algum tema, sempre mandamos links da wikipedia para mostra aquilo que queremos dizer um ao outro. Por exemplo, um animal que exista apenas aqui no Brasil, envio um link para que ele possa ver e entender que bicho doido é.

Adam also edits articles on Wikipedia, and often when we are talking about something we send each other Wikipedia links to show what we want to say to each other. For example, I showed him an animal that can only be found here in Brazil, and I sent him a link to show how crazy the animal was.

Hello. I just moved my blog to WordPress which is a great tool for blogging. I got the idea from a friend, Carlos, from Brazil who has been using this service for awhile. His blog is very sucessful in Brazil and has many vistors per day. You can find his blog at http://www.duard.com.br/blog/
