I thought this hoax was bunked long ago, but apparently not. I was just talking to someone on the internet from the Brazilian city of Manaus which is in the middle of the Amazon. He thinks that the US intends to take over the Amazon “to protect” it.
This is a very old internet rumor that claims there is a US textbook that says this.
Here is the image of this blatant forgery:
The forgery, pictured below, purports to be page 76 of a U.S. sixth grade textbook titled An Introduction to Geography by David Norman. There is no indication that such a book exists. The U.S. Library of Congress, with more than 29 million books and other printed materials, has no record of it. The Online Computer Learning Center’s WorldCat database, the world’s largest database of bibliographic information with more than 47 million books, has no record of the book. Nor can such a book be found in Internet searches on amazon.com or Google.
Here are some of the gems of the poor English in this text.
We can consider that this area has the most biodiversity in the planet, with a vast number of species of all types of animals and vegetals. The value of this area is unable to calcule, but the planet can be cert that The United States won’t let these Latin American countries explorate and destroy this real ownership of all humanity.
The US State Department and the Brazilian embassy in Washington have gone to great lengths to dispell this myth, but there are still idiots out there who believe this crap.
This is the State Department’s Statement
This is the statement from the Brazilian Embassy (in Portuguese)
Finally, here are all the English errors-
1. “3.000 square miles” – It is using a decimal point instead of a comma to separate the thousands place.
2. “passed to the responsability” – This term is never used and “responsibility” should have an “i”.
3. “is named as FINRAF” – “as” should not be used here.
4. “due to the fact the Amazon” – This should be- “the fact that the Amazon”.
5. “earth” – This should be capitalized: Earth.
6. “irresponsable” – The correct spelling is irresponsible, with an “i”.
7. “a unintelligent” – “an” should be used here.
8. “the creation of FINRAF were” – “was” should be used here.
9. “has the most biodiversity” – Just wrong.
10. “vegetals” – Wrong spelling.
11. “unable to calcule” – Incorrect construction and spelling- “impossible to calculate”.
12. “be cert” – Bad translation- it should be, “be sure”, “be certain”.
13. “explorate” – This verb doesn’t exist, it should be, “explore”.
14. “ownership” – Probably a bad word to choose.
15. “humanity” – Hardly ever used, “mankind” should be used.
16. “eight South America’s countries” – It should be ” eight South American countries”.
17. “some of the poorest and miserable countries of the world” – It should be ” some of the poorest and most miserable countries of the world”.

Many people didn’t believe the execution scene of the Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein. I didn’t even believe it, that a man who was so powerful could die in just a few minutes.
After reading various sites, such as “impartial” magazines, and watching the execution, I have concluded that it was all an American production. They established an agreement with the ex-dictator that he could leave with his fortune to another part of the world and leave Iraq and its oil to the United States, making everyone happy.
Today, when reading the “oddly enough” news from the portals that I access every day, I have confirmed that Saddam is in fact alive. Hundreds of friends in a group in which I participate, found Saddam in a photo, that showed a giant squid.
Saddam lives in New Zealand. He is living his dream that he always had, to be a fisherman. Thanks to Saddam, Lula (squid in Portuguese) could finally be found.
Here is his picture with the squid:

What do you know? The American pilots of the Embraer Legacy jet really weren’t at fault in the tragedy in Brazil that brought down a 737 operated by Gol Airlines in the Amazon forest of Brazil. A report today from the New York Post backs the Long Island pilots-
The 290-page transcript of the recordings from cockpit voice recorders and the control tower, obtained by the Folha de S. Paulo, is part of an ongoing investigation into the causes of a Sept. 29 collision between a Legacy business jet from Long Island and a Boeing 737 that killed 154 people.
According to the transcript, the control tower in Sao Jose dos Campos authorized the Legacy before take-off to fly at 37,000 feet but made no mention of other altitudes foreseen in the original flight plan. The pilots asked three times for clarification without getting a response.
The recordings suggest that pilots Joseph Lepore and Jan Paladino never saw the Boeing on their radar screen. At the time of impact, one of the pilots said: “What the hell was that?”
As you can see, the immediate, knee-jerk reaction of the Brazilian people and the government was absurd. The government siezed the passports of the crew during investigation. The knee-jerk reaction of everyone was to blame the foreigners, they are so irresponsible etc, etc. It appears that the ground could be to blame in this tragedy, not any of the pilots involved.
I have said this before, if such an accident were to occur in the US, the government would not sieze the passports of the foreign pilots without cause, when they are no criminal charges…

This doesn’t change what I think of her because I already thought that she was ugly with strechmarks on her stomach. After showing her “stuff” when she was caught wearing no underwear, Britney now surprised us bald, tattooed, and Jewish, after coming out of rehab…
“Not even 24 hours after reports surfaced that Spears, the former pop princess, entered and exited rehab, now comes news of this.
Spears returned to Los Angeles and shaved her head completely bald.
After ridding herself of every single strand of hair on the top of her head, Spears – a mother of two keep in mind – went to “Body and Soul,” the Sherman Oaks tattoo parlor, and got tattoos on her wrist and lower hip.
She got a black, white and pink cross on her lower hip and red and pink lips on her wrist.
She got all this while wearing a large “Magen David” (Jewish star symbol) around her neck. Yes, the cross tattoo and the Jewish star are an odd mix. So is a 24-hour rehab stint and a shaved head.
Rehab, again, is just days away.
In the words of Helen Lovejoy, won’t somebody please think about the children?”

The greatest age to which any man has ever lived is 120 years 237 days
in the case of Shigechiyo Izumi (Japan) of Isen on Tokunoshima, an
island 1,320 km (820 miles) south-west of Tokyo, Japan. He was born at
Isen on 29 June 1865 and was recorded as a 6-year-old in Japan’s first
census of 1871. He died at 12:15 GMT on 21 February 1986 after
developing pneumonia.
The oldest fully authenticated age to which any human has ever lived
is 122 years and 164 days, by Jeanne-Louise Calment. She was born in
France on February 21, 1875, and died at a nursing home in Arles,
southern France on August 4, 1997. President Jacques Chirac once said
Jean Calment was a little bit like a grandmother to everyone in
France. She was 14 when the Eiffel Tower was completed in 1889. She
led an extremely active life, taking up fencing at 85 years old, and
was still riding a bicycle at 100. She portrayed herself at the age of
114 in the film Vincent And Me, to become the oldest actress in film.
Levan, Utah, is “navel” spelled backwards. It was so named because it
is in the middle of Utah.
Egeskov Castle in Denmark, complete with moat and drawbridge, was
built in 1554 in the middle of a small lake, Egeskov. The name means
literally “oak forest,” and the castle rests on a foundation of
thousands of upright oak trunks.
Honey was often used as an ingredient in the center of golf balls and
in antifreeze mixtures.

Valentine’s for lovers and for friends.
All my love goes out to you this day!
Love is something different from desire:
Even, silent, peaceful as the sky.
Nor is love interested in means or ends.
There are no selfish needs that it must weigh.
Instead, love’s plenitude itself inspires,
Needing neither cause nor reason why.
Each day my thoughts enchanted with you lie.
The other day, I learned of some gruesome news. Some local hoodlums carjacked a woman in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. The woman tried to free her 6-year old son, but the carjackers gunned the car and dragged the poor boy by his seatbelt on the ground for four miles as he died a gruesome death being torn apart. He probably died by decapitation as they found his head further down the road.
This disgusts me. Why is there so much violence? This is no isolated incident for sure. The murders and traficking is a daily occurence. On Sunday, there was a three-sided shootout involving police, trafickers and a paramilitary militia. Nine people died in that incident.
These are things that would never happen even in America’s most dangerous cities, such as New Orleans.
The city of Rio de Janeiro is falling apart, so why don’t we just rename it Baghdad? I think even Baghdad has more order. I love Brazil, but I prefer going to the interior, away from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, where at least I can feel somewhat safe.
Below are several Brazilian bloggers talking about the brutal murder of the child, João Hélio who was dragged behind a car for 15 minutes.
João Hélio, desculpe nossa indiferença (pardon our indifference)
Morte do guri arrastado traz o que há de pior em nós (The death of a little boy has brought out the worst in us)
A morte do menino que foi arrastado (The death of the boy that was dragged [through the streets])
