Indian village with 250 sets of twins

Doctors are trying to unravel the mystery of an Indian village
boasting 250 sets of twins born to just 2,000 families.

The phenomenon has seen almost six times as many twins born
than the global average in the remote village of Kodinhi, in Kerala.

In 2008 alone 15 pairs of twins were born in the village out of 300
healthy deliveries and this year is expected to top that number.

In the last five years alone up to 60 pairs of twins have
been born, with the rate of twins increasing year-on-year.

Local doctor and twin enthusiast Dr Krishnan Sribiju has been studying the medical
marvel of Kodinhi for the past two years. Although 250 sets of twins have been officially
registered in the village, Dr Sribiju believes the real number to be far higher.
“In my medical opinion there are around 300 to 350 twins
within the village boundaries of Kodinhi,” he said

According to villagers, the twin phenomenon only started occurring three generations ago.
Dr Sribiju said: “To the best of my knowledge this medical marvel
began somewhere between 60 to 70 years ago”

“Without access to detailed biochemical analysis equipment I cannot say for certain
what the reason for the twinning is,
but I feel that it is something to do with what the villagers eat and drink”

I just came across this on another blog, and I thought it was pretty interesting. This car- a French made Bugatti Veyron, was involved in a horrific accident which destroyed the car. The insurance loss tops £ 800,000 ($ 1.6 million).

Businessman Kumar Soni is facing the prospect of writing off his £830,000 Bugatti supercar after a horrific accident saw it spin out of control, crash into a vehicle driven by a pregnant woman and smash into a hedgerow.

The French made model crashed on Sunday afternoon near the £3 million Surrey home of the car’s 41-year-old owner.
Yesterday insurance assessors were left examining what remained of the supercar – capable of reaching a top speed of 253 mph – and deciding whether the vehicle could be repaired or is destined for the breakers’ yard.
It is not known who was behind the wheel at the time of the crash.

But neighbours of the wealthy Soni family claiming the accident had caused a furious row between Kumar Soni and his younger brother 39-year-old Ajay, prompting speculation the owner of the rare car was not the driver.
It is thought the vehicle was only delivered to the family home last week.
Photographs taken immediately after Sunday’s accident show Ajay Soni inspecting damage to the car along with a family friend.
The car left the road on a 40mph stretch of the B375 road near Chertsey, Surrey shortly after 3pm on Sunday afternoon.
Locals told yesterday how the low slung car had been driving repeatedly through Shepperton before heading for the B road as a heavy rainstorm began.
The sleek Bugatti Veyron – one of only a dozen such models in the UK – had been hand-built at the company’s French base in Alsace and is as powerful as a Formula One car.
The eight litre 1,000 horsepower engine beneath the bonnet is capable of taking the vehicle from 0-60 in just 2.5 seconds.

The largest outdoor swimming pool in the world is at the San Alfonso Del Mar resort in Chile. It is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest pool with .5 mil in length and nearly 20 acres. The swimming pool has 60 million gallons or the equivalent of 6,000 normal backyard pools.

According to a site called oh gizmo, the largest pool cost close to 1.5 billion dollars to build and its maintenance costs are $4 million per year.

Besides swimming, it is possible to kayak, sail, dive and use the ferry service that transports guests from one end to the other of the resort.
